Context
The team developing Khatyrka was expanding and asked me to join after seeing my previous UI work on school game projects. They specifically wanted someone who could create a diegetic UI and implement it in Unity using C#.
Problem
Unorthodox style and keyboard only controls
The team leads wanted a creative soviet-style diegetic interface in line with the “weird” style they are known for. They needed the device displaying the UI to be rather unusual and were also clear on using only keyboard controls for navigating the interface.
Solution
Asymmetry and consistent navigation rules
I designed a device inspired by the pip-boy from fallout, utilizing two screens with lots of asymmetry. The user navigates menus using the small screen (selector) and enters the large screen to view and modify content.
I worked on a userflow diagram and came up with a keyboard navigation system allowing the user to switch back and forth between screens and edit settings in an intuitive way.

HUD
Features player health, weapon, ammo, and a dialog box. Stylized to resemble old analog displays.
Style Guide
All of the fonts, colours, and icons are placeholders that never got finalised due to the project being cancelled.
